Mini Symposium: Energy and Environment

The Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) stated that limiting global warming to 1.5°C is necessary to reduce climate risks. To achieve this, we would need to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The climate crisis is recognized by governments and organizations worldwide. For example, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) includes “affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. ”

Clean tech, renewable energy, waste management, and water access, is gaining attention due to urgency as well as opportunity. What are the opportunities and issues of clean tech and green energy? Could climate change be a catalyst for smart investments, job creation, and social innovation? This year the theme of the Hult Prize is climate action.
